Breaking News: Dr. Randy Abbey Appointed Acting CEO of COCOBOD

In a move aimed at revitalizing the cocoa industry, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Randy Abbey as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

Dr. Abbey, a seasoned media personality and former Managing Director of Metro TV, is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the cocoa industry. His appointment takes immediate effect, pending the constitutionally required advice of the COCOBOD Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

While some cocoa farmers have welcomed the appointment, others have expressed skepticism about Dr. Abbey's lack of direct experience in the cocoa industry.

"We are not sure what to expect from Dr. Abbey," said Kwame Owusu, a cocoa farmer from the Western Region. "We hope he will listen to our concerns and work to improve our livelihoods." On the other hand, some farmers believe that Dr. Abbey's media background could be an asset in promoting Ghana's cocoa globally.

"Dr. Abbey's experience in the media could help us to market our cocoa better and get better prices," said Ama Serwaa, a cocoa farmer from the Ashanti Region.
