ALLIANCE OF SAHEL STATES: A NEW ERA OF ECONOMIC GROWTH AND COOPERATION
The harsh economic conditions of Africa in recent times is making it citizens wonder if it leaders really have the continents interest at heart. Africa has seen series of coups with recent ones happening in Niger, Mali and Burkina faso with General Abdourahmane tchiani of Niger, Colonel Assimi Goita of Mali and Captain Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso fronting the coup.
In a historic move, the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS) was formed in 2023, bringing together Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso in a bid to strengthen economic, security, and cultural ties. This strategic alliance is poised to usher in a new era of economic growth and cooperation among its member states.
The ASS was formed in response to the 2023 Nigerien crisis,
where the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) threatened
military intervention to restore civilian rule in Niger. The three countries,
